Issues and Options
This major consultation exercise was completed over the summer by Wealden District Council as part of the decision making process in setting the future of the area for the next 20 years.
Some 21,000 responses to the questions from 1,140 individuals or organisations across Wealden shows the keen interest in how the future will be mapped out.
The document suggested apx 300 homes in Wadhurst over the period to 2026.
Since the consultation an independent assessment has suggested a further 20% should be allocated to Wealden but no mention of the infrastructure need to support a growing population!!

Hanging Baskets
The environment committee has researched the possibility of additional floral arrangements for the High Street and propose to install flower containers to six of the conservation lampposts. There will be self watering systems within the containers which will only need to be topped up once a week. We have also found a local company that will carry out the planting and watering so there will be no onerous commitment required from residents. Many thanks to Magpie for funds received towards the village floral displays.

Environment News
Much work has been carried out at the Jardin d'Aubers and the pond. The brambles have been cleared and the gravel area has been treated for weeds. It is looking much tidier while retaining a natural environment which will attract and sustain wildlife.
Next Year
In the next year we will continue our pond and garden improvements, evaluate the success of the floral displays, look to change the concrete litter bins for conservation ones and continue to support kerbside recycling, litter clearance and other ways to improve the environment for all. It is hoped that village residents may even want to work towards entering South East in Bloom in 2009.

Wadhurst Library

No go from Libraries Fund
It was disappointing to hear recently that the bid put together by East Sussex County Council and supported by the Community including District and Parish Councillors has been turned down by the Government. The options now are to try and fund the new library project another way or see if any other funding can be found to make the urgent refurbishment of the library. Once books go into Wadhurst Library they can never be used by any other East Sussex library as they get too damp. Surely Wadhurst deserves better facilities in the 21st Century.

Fire !!
Each year Wealden District Council with help from Safer Wealden Partnership and the Fire service set up an electric blanket test. Whilst this initiative always seems to cause a smile when reported to the Parish Council the fact that over 45% of the 441 tested failed shows what an important service it is.
