The Staying Put Agency works in partnership with Wealden District Council
to enable elderly, frail and disabled clients of all ages to obtain grants
for repairs or adaptations to their properties, to enable them to remain
living independently in their own homes.
The agency can also help with benefit applications and can, in certain
circumstances, assist with an application for charitable help.
We have now started a new service, which is a Small Repairs Handyperson,
who helps people on low income to carry out repairs and maintenance to
their homes, for the cost of the materials plus a small donation of £5
for an hour's labour. This enables clients to have jobs done which would
not be cost effective for a general builder to carry out. Jobs have included
the fitting of grab rails and handrails, fencing repairs and jobs as small
as changing a light bulb or putting a new battery in a smoke alarm.
