OPEN GARDENS DAY
Sunday June 16

Guide and details of gardens open
Tickets available from Carillon Cttage during normal opening hours - and on the day

There is a total of 10 gardens open across Greater Wadhurst ranging from those of several acres down to more moderate plots. We have deliberately reduced the number this year as previously people have suggested there have been too many to get round comfortably.

With one notable exception (garden 10), which must not be missed, all the gardens this year are new to us and have not been viewed within our scheme before.

The gardens are listed and numbered (a map is included with your ticket ) and, with one exception (Carillon Cottage), are in some kind of geographical order starting at the most westerly point.

IT IS NOT INTENDED FOR ALL OF YOU to start at number one and work your way round in numerical order! Start at different points to suit you personally. However, you should, if you are so inclined, be able to see all the gardens ending up at one of the two gardens offering refreshments (I & 10).
All gardens will display a poster with a flower and appropriate number corresponding with the list to show you have reached the correct garden.

NOTE: three of the gardens have some form of time restrictions.

1) Carillon Cottage, High Street, Wadhurst.
This garden is very much work in progress. We have been fighting with nettles, brambles and worst of all, a deep thatch of the dreaded ground elder. Unfortunately, a cold winter, wet late spring and physical infirmity have delayed progress somewhat.  However, you can see the bones of an old garden being transformed.
It is our aim to eventually tame it as an oasis of peace, calm and natural beauty in the village centre. Hopefully, by next year, it should be well on its way and you are welcome to view later in the summer, autumn and next year, to see the progress made. However, there is still a huge amount to be done and if anyone would like to lend a hand or sponsor a plant please contact Garth Cooper (01892 782 424 from 2 July onwards).
REFRESHMENTS AVAILABLE HERE

2) Marlow, Station Road, Wadhurst
The garden of Rhonda and Jeremy Oldershaw
A multi-faceted gem. Mostly herbaceous with scree (alpine) bed, vegetable garden and a more recently addition of a delightful walled fruit garden entered through a magnificent "period" potting shed. (Potting shed does it no justice). Also, a wild flower garden with orchids. Please do not attempt to park on Marlow's own drive, but in front of Marling House where permission has been granted.

3) Brewery Cottage, Durgates (next Humberts) Wadhurst
The garden of Sue and Colin Maddocks
A much larger garden than you would imagine. Partially walled (and secret) garden in the heart of Durgates. You just do not realise it is there.

4) Rydal, Jonas Lane, Durgates
The garden of Margaret and David Forward
Flowers and shrubs together with a sizeable vegetable plot. Additionally, about sixteen bush and espalier fruit trees as well as all sorts of soft fruit. Sounds like a lot of hard work for them both.
Please do not park in front of the house, but on main road or in Jonas Drive and walk back.

5) Southridge Cottage, Mount Pleasant, Sparrows Green
The garden of Diana and John Waters
From the terrace a lawn sweeps down towards a small woodland area, bordered on either side with rhododendrons and other acid loving plants. Do not miss one of Wadhursts' best kept secrets.
Please do not block Mount Pleasant with cars.

6) Quince Cottage, Cockmount Lane, Sparrows Green
The garden of Jean and Gary Sermon
A newish garden round a newish house. Lawn, flowers and a few vegetables.

7) High Banks, South View Road, Sparrows Green
The garden of John Burlison
A well-sculptured garden surrounding the house on three sides. Everything neat and tidy and in good military order. Plenty of interest and detail, but, unfortunately, probably too early for the sweet peas! Closes at 17:00

8) Wyck House, Woods Green
The garden of Sarah and John Adams
Large lawn and woodland garden set in a valley (some steep sections) with a stream. Peace and quiet in a timeless pastoral scene.
Viewing preferred from 15:30 onwards
.

9) Wyndale, Stone Cross Road, Wadhurst
The garden of Sue and Andy Jenner
An immaculate garden where Sue does the flowers and Andy the vegetables and it appears these boundaries must not be crossed!! Weeds - what weeds? They are not allowed!
Closes at 17:30

10) White Magpie, Hog Hole Lane, Lamberhurst
The garden of Ronnie and Pauline Spencer-Wootton
Yes, we know this was included last year but we felt it was not to be missed - though plenty of people did last year. Do not make the same mistake again!

Follow signs down Lamberhurst Road from Cousley Wood. Turn left into Hog Hole Lane just before the county boundary (there will be a sign here showing the way). Drive along the lane for exactly 1/2 a mile where you will see on the right a car parking sign into a field with mown pathways and parking plots. Walk down to back gate entrance where there will be a gateman to show the way.
Limited parking immediately outside the house carry on past car park for 200 yards(house on right) for GENUINELY infirm folk)Approximate four acre garden set within fifteen acres in an elevated position overlooking five ponds. Includes walled garden.
Stunning location within which to enjoy REFRESHMENTS including CREAM TEAS.
