in the Ticehurst Village Institute

Present:  Cllrs. Maynard ©, A Cook, M Goodall, P Langdown,  C Hastings – apologies received from R Rigby.
D Cllr Elliston in attendance

Declarations of interest by any Councillors regarding the list below should be made prior to the meeting or to that item being deliberated

Ticehurst RR/2008/1020/P

Stepping Stones  St Marys Lane, erection of replacement conservatory – Mr and Mrs Hollamby of that address
The conservatory is larger than existing but does not intrude on neighbours. Recommendation for approval.

Flimwell RR/2008/1021/P

High Street  The old Post Office  Flimwell – erection of single storey side extension to replace existing structure – Mr Cutmore of that address
The new proposal is much smaller than the last application and leaves a path between the new extension and the boundary.  It was felt to be much better in design   Recommendation for approval

Ticehurst RR/2008/848/P

Warrens Coaches Ltd   High Street – Demolition of coachworks, office and  four bungalows and construction of 25 extra care apartments on-site care facility A1 retail and associated access and provision of 35 parking spaces – Mr Reeve-Wing, Court Royal, 1 Upper Grosvenor Road, Tunbridge Wells
6 members of the public present:

It was felt that as a commercial site, the proposals did still include an element of business – likely employment figures 11 as opposed to 9 on the current site.  It was felt that access to the rear of Hilbury Gardens should not be cut off.
Material deliveries should  be within reasonable times,  the road should be kept clean and swept at all times,  and working hours should not disturb neighbours.  The positioning of the bins will be offensive to  8 Hazlewood Cottages and should be re-sited.  Concerns were expressed about whether the parking provisions were adequate.
Clarification was sought about whether mature trees would be planted at the close of the building project, and what types they would be.
Cllrs. felt strongly that the materials used should be ‘worn’ in appearance, rather than a harsh red brick and tiles, bearing in mind this area lies within the conservation area of the village.
Recommendation for approval by all Cllrs.

It was felt that the current owner has acted with sensitivity about the village’s needs rather than going for maximum profit on the site
